A toddler is currently in critical condition after being hit by a car in the Auckland suburb of Clover Park.

According to a report by Stuff, the two-year-old boy, whose name has not been revealed, was struck by the vehicle while on the road. Police were called to the scene at around midday.

The incident happened on Hollyford Drive near Manukau. “The cause of the crash and the circumstances behind the crash are yet to be established,” said Northern police communications shift commander Jason Greenhalgh.

According to a report by Newstalk ZB the toddler was on the road, and not on a driveway, when he was hit.

The child was brought to Middlemore Kidz First Hospital, but was soon transferred to Starship Hospital.

Hollyford Drive was closed from Aspiring Ave to Te Irirangi Drive, but both have since reopened.

Investigations are ongoing. The driver of the vehicle is reportedly cooperating with police.
