Woman found dead in Dunedin house

A woman has been found dead in a house on the seaside village of Seacliff, north of Dunedin, police have confirmed.

According to a report by Stuff, an emergency call was made at around 8:20am.

Police also said that a critically injured man was discovered in at the nearby Truby King Reserve.

“Soon after [finding the man] police conducted inquiries at a nearby address and in one of the addresses they located a deceased female,” said Otago Coastal area commander Inspector Jason Guthrie. “Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances and that investigation is obviously in its very early stages.”

A firearm was recovered from the reserve.

RadioNZ reported that the 53-year-old woman and the 59-year-old man, who haven’t been identified yet, were neighbours. Locals, said that they did not really see them much.

The man was brought to the Dunedin Hospital by helicopter. “Police can confirm the 59 year-old male who was transported to hospital this morning remains in a critical condition in hospital after receiving serious injuries,” said the press release.

“I’d like to reassure the local community that people are able to go about their business and police are currently not seeking anyone else in relation to this incident,” said Inspector Guthrie.

Investigations are ongoing.
